Miguel Ángel claimed the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic for the second year in a row by winning the first hole of the play-off to American Gene Sauers. With this win, Miguel Ángel secured his fourth victory on the PGA TOUR Champions.
The “Malagueño, who defended the title at Fallen Oak Golf Club, Biloxi, is thrilled to win on the Tour so early in the season and feels confident and hopeful about a great season ahead.
"I am very happy to have won, although it has not been an easy victory. The two times I played the 18th hole today were like “night and day”. The first time, I took six strokes for a double bogey. I was undecided between eight or nine iron and, as I went to hit the ball, I got completely blocked in my mind. I don’t know what happened to me, I didn’t know how to hit it! I'm human. And then I missed a very short putt. The same hole in the play-off was totally the opposite. I hit a good Drive, a magnificent seven iron and I holed a three metre putt for birdie. This is golf!
“I want to thank Steve Nieman and his Team at Bruno Events for organizing a fantastic tournament and on a great course. Everyone at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic and at the IP Casino Resort & Spa in Biloxi have been so kind to us all week. We were like a Spanish Armada this week in Biloxi, myself, José María Olazábal, Miguel Ángel Martín and our physical trainer, Emilio Pereira. It’s been great fun.”
