Course Design
One of the activities I really enjoy when I am not competing is the design of golf courses. As Tour Professionals, we play many golf courses around the world every year, with differing landscapes, altitudes, natural and man-made hazards, grasses and climates. With this experience I believe it gives me a greater understanding of what makes a really good golf course design.
I believe a golf course should be a challenge to play, both for amateur and professional golfers, but at the same time it should be an enjoyable experience, creating a sense of achievement following a great round of golf.
I have worked on a number of different projects to date. Some require a total design beginning with the site allocation to establish the suitability of the land for the purpose, creating initial design plans, consultation on construction methods and all materials, overseeing the construction at various intervals throughout the build to the final opening of the course. In other instances, an existing golf course may require just a few holes to be changed and enhanced in various ways, perhaps to make them more challenging or aesthetically pleasing.
Here are some of the golf course designs I have carried out.
